Passivhaus project in Wimbish for Hastoe Housing
Parsons & Whittley Architects have designed 11 Affordable Houses in Wimbish, Essex for Hastoe Housing Association. The homes were built by DCH Construction, with Alan Clarke as Mechanical Designer on the project. All of the dwellings were constructed to Passivhaus certified and Code level 4 standards. The houses were built using masonry construction, with brick walls, boarded feature panelling, and tiled roofs. The 11 units were made up of terraced and semi-detached housing and included 1/2/3/4 bed units.
Green Building Store designed, supplied and commissioned a mixture of PAUL Focus and Novus MVHR systems, with rigid steel ducting, for the project.
MVHR Design
The houses were all designed with cold roofs. To help with space saving, and to keep costs down, the first floor MVHR ducting was boxed in, for example using bulkheads over doors, rather than having lowered ceilings.
Dan Higginbotham, Associate at Parsons + Whittley Architects commented:
“We have a lot of previous experience of working with Green Building Store for MVHR design and supply and like working with them. We have always been very satisfied with the technical support Green Building Store provides. In this project, Green Building Store had also worked with the contractor before, which made the whole process smooth and straightforward”.
The homes were handed over in July 2016 and Parsons + Whittley is not aware of any issues arising from the MVHR systems.
