We chose the Focus 200 from Green Building Store because we wanted a Passivhaus-certified MVHR system that was suitable for this size of project.

The contractors found Green Building Store’s detailed design instructions – with all the labelled parts – to be very helpful.

We have all been very impressed with the quietness of the MVHR system. It is virtually silent, with absolutely no cross-talk.

We would definitely specify the products again and, in fact, already have – for a Passivhaus dwelling we’re working on in Chiswick.

New build Passivhaus in Camberwell, London

Richard Dudzicki Associates(RDA) has just completed a Passivhaus in Camberwell which is designed as a flexible 3-bed house and artist’s studio, which could be used in multiple configurations.

RDA specified a PAUL Focus 200 MVHR system for the project, which was designed, supplied and commissioned by Green Building Store

Through careful arrangement of the groundfloor plan, RDA has given the client the option of annexing the studio, should they wish to let the rest of the new house at any time, or for incorporating the studio into an open-plan living area should it no longer be needed. There is also an option for the clients to use it a self-contained flat. A garage is incorporated in the design, but was designed as a cold space outside the thermal envelope.

A Structural Insulated Panel (SIPs) superstructure was used to provide a solid base for passing the airtightness requirements, with additional internal insulation to achieve the Passivhaus requirements for space heating demand. Thermal bridging analysis was undertaken on a number of difficult junctions to ascertain their performance.

MVHR system

Restrictions on the overall building heights introduced challenges in accommodating ductwork for the MVHR system. It was not possible to have a separate services void, so ductwork was located inline with the TGI joists, with larger diameter silencers accommodated parallel to the joist runs to reduce penetration sizes.
RDA Architects added:
“ We chose the Focus 200 from Green Building Store because we wanted a Passivhaus-certified MVHR system that was suitable for this size of project. The contractors did a really good job at installing the MVHR, which was confirmed when GBS came to do the commissioning of the MVHR. The contractors found Green Building Store’s detailed design instructions – with all the labelled parts – to be very helpful. We have all been very impressed with the quietness of the MVHR system. It is virtually silent, with absolutely no cross-talk.”

Referring again to the Green Building Store products used in the Stories Mews project, RDA Architects added: “We would definitely specify the products again and, in fact, already have – for a Passivhaus dwelling we’re working on in Chiswick”.
