Our outgoing Communications Manager Chayley Collis shares some of the highlights from her 21 years at Green Building Store below
- Pedalhaus tour – A cycle tour around our retrofit and Passivhaus projects. As Pedalhaus organiser, I should have been at the front of the peloton but was often at the rear – and occasionally in the ‘Support van’ driven by Bill (Butcher). A one-off event never to be repeated around these hills!
- Passivhaus Open Days – I love the Passivhaus Open Days and the opportunity to spread the Passivhaus love. Our Passivhaus clients around Huddersfield have been so generous and welcoming in opening up their homes and the conversations during the Open Days are always really positive, plus the cake is amazing!
- Tree-planting – Green Building Store’s partnership with Colne Valley Tree Society and White Rose Forest has brought some memorable rain-saturated occasions, as well as helping foster tree planting enthusiasm amongst the GBS younger generations too.
I have loved talking to many Green Building Store customers over the years about their projects. There is always an interesting story behind them and often strong environmental motivations behind why they have been undertaken. It’s very hard to select my favourites from the 100s undertaken
so I would encourage you to check them out.
The press coverage highlight of my career has been successfully pitching Bill’s Passivhaus Diaries
to Building magazine, something that helped get Green Building Store better recognition in the wider construction industry and moved us away from being perceived as just some small ‘hippie outlet’.
The technical film
sharing the building of the Denby Dale Passivhaus, and its shorter Future Passiv
summary, were a steep – but enjoyable – learning curve in the art of film-making. I’m also very proud of our film ‘A short guide to radical retrofit’
, undertaken with Ben Adam-Smith, which gives a great overview of our Passivhaus-inspired approach to retrofit.
The window customer photo competitions in 2020
undertaken during lockdown, and as lockdown had lifted, were a great joy and it was interesting to see the creative ways our customers rose to the challenge. The 2021 desk calendar, created using the winning photos, was a thing of beauty and a source of great pride, as well as being the culmination of a brilliant 10+ year working relationship with graphic designer Chris Bailey.
I’ve had a brilliant 21 years at Green Building Store but it is time to hand over the reins to others now to help Green Building Store grow and blossom over the next few years. A big thanks to the Marketing & Communications team Sarah Johnson (Marketing Manager), Nicola Briscoe (Digital Marketing Executive) and Ryan Lewis (Communications Manager) for picking up the baton for Green Building Store and the Efficient Building Solutions businesses.
A massive thank you to all the customers, building professionals, journalists, and colleagues that I’ve worked with while at Green Building Store. It has been a pleasure to be on this Passivhaus and low energy journey with you.
