The client

We’ve used ULTRA windows and doors from Green Building Store on a number of jobs. When you’re dealing with a known supplier it makes it easier.

The ULTRA windows and doors are good value for the money. For the quality of window, they’re a reasonable price.

Green Building Store’s fitting team came to install the windows and we have been very happy with the service received.

A contemporary newbuild project, aiming for high levels of energy efficiency and low embodied carbon, has just been completed. Designed by Studio Bark up to RIBA Stage 4, the project was taken on and built by Ecovert Solutions

Green Building Store supplied ULTRA triple glazed timber windows and doors and Lacuna fold-aside doors for the project.

Design

The project was approved under National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) Paragraph 55 (now 79) for new development in the countryside and so required high standards of architecture, sustainability and innovation. The contemporary design incorporates two flat-roofed double storey timber frame cubes linked by a portal framed hallway. The levels of insulation on the project mean that it could potentially be certified under the AECB building standard, something which Ecovert Solutions hope to achieve.

Key features

  • UK-sourced timber including larch cladding and sweet chestnut shutters
  • Sedum green roof
  • Air source heat pump and solar PV panels
  • Trombe wall to retain heat
  • Insulated raft foundation incorporating underfloor heating
  • I-Joist walls with Warmcel recycled cellulose and wood fibre insulation
  • Glulam beams and portal frame
  • Ventilation via push pull extract fans with heat recovery

Triple glazed timber windows & doors

Green Building Store ULTRA triple glazed timber window and doors and a Lacuna fold-aside door were selected for the project.

Inward opening ULTRA windows tilt and turn were specified, with a RAL finish 7016 on the outside and nature effect wood stain on the inside. There are two ULTRA fully boarded doors, with tongue and groove, which had ‘nature effect’ wood finish on both sides.

Green Building Store also supplied a fold-aside triple glazed timber Lacuna door. The windows also all have wooden external shutters, for privacy and to prevent overheating.
