Passivhaus open days 2013

Denby Dale Passivhaus open dayWe’re just recovering from a fantastic couple of Passivhaus open days at our Denby Dale Passivhaus (newbuild) and Stirley Community Farm (retrofit) projects.

Growing interest in Passivhaus

We had over 120 visitors at Denby Dale and around 70 at the Cre8 barn. This year interest in the open days seemed to have grown exponentially and we were really struggling to squeeze everyone in. We are so grateful to our wonderful clients and friends Geoff & Kate Tunstall who make the visits to Denby Dale so enjoyable, warm & inspiring! Kate’s cakes are also a key ingredient in the event (and they’ve helped raised £200 for the charity SolarAid this year). I’m sure Geoff & Kate’s generosity in sharing their home and passion for Passivhaus will have inspired many future Passivhaus projects. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust were also very kind to let us open up the newly-refurbished Cre8 Barn for the open days and we are very grateful to their staff for their help on the days.

Passivhaus for all life stages

Denby Dale Passivhaus open day 2013What was encouraging was how many Passivhaus projects (both newbuild & retrofit) were in the pipeline – led by self-builders and co-housing groups etc. It felt good to be able to put people in touch with other Passivhaus enthusiasts in their area.  People at many different life stages – eg planning for retirement or trying to gain their first step on the housing ladder – were interested and it marked a heightened awareness of Passivhaus generally.

Feedback from Denby Dale visits included:

Therapeutic Living Space formed by people!”

“Thank you for confirming our views of Passivhaus.  We will be steaming ahead with greater confidence.”

“Thank you for a very interesting & informative visit. A lovely house.”

“Big thanks for sharing your house and being so passionate about it and the concept of passivhaus.  It feels so welcoming!”

” Great tour. A fabulous house & well done for leading the way! The content was really interesting & lovely to have input from both designer and occupant.”

” A really inspiring house!  It is hugely helpful to experience it rather than simply read about the theory. The quietness was an unexpected delight & benefilt.”

“Thanks for your time and for letting us into your lovely home. It was great to be able to see the Passivhaus for real and not just on the page. Very inspiring – thanks!”

“Wonderful house! Warm and inspiring home, reflecting its owners!”

” Thank you. A very valuable visit allowing us both to see how ideas/concepts can be turned into a realistic actuality.”

“Motivated to go for it, thank you so much!”

We’ve already had two enquiries for the Passivhaus open days in 2014 (!) illustrating the great value and importance of the International Passivhaus open day scheme generally.
