Timber treatment
Pioneered by our company in 1995, the pine Ecoplus3 range is treated with inorganic boron-based mineral salts. As well as being highly effective against blue stain, rot and mildew, borates are widely recognised as the safest and most environmentally benign treatment available.
Paint finishes
Painted timber offers a durable and sensible finish for windows & doors, often not requiring repainting for up to 10 years. When the time comes to refresh windows & doors, often all that is needed is a light sanding and one coat of stain or paint. For an average-sized house, this would usually require approximately 1-2 days of maintenance work and also gives an opportunity to rejuvenate the windows and refresh the appearance of the building.
Natural finishes
Hand finishing with plant-based paints and finishes (OSMO), in our West Yorkshire workshop - Ecoplus3
Ecoplus3 uses OSMO natural plant oil based paints & finishes. Each individual timber component is painted twice before assembly to ensure no moisture is able to get to the frame through joins and end grains. This careful attention to detail in painting and finishing, minimises warping and distortion over time and contributes to the premium quality of our Ecoplus3 handcrafted windows.
Using microporous natural paints means that there is no danger of cracking or peeling. This means that re-coating is quick and simple, since it does not involve sanding, just cleaning.
Conventional timber finishes are complex formulations composed, at least in part, of synthetic petrochemical based compounds. Our modern natural finishes rely on the ability of the natural plant oils used to penetrate deeply into and bond with the timber surface, giving exceptional durability.
Synthetic finishes, factory-sprayed
Our other window & door ranges are finished using synthetic factory-sprayed finishes. The Ecocontract & Ecoclad ranges are finished using the REMMERS system.
