Ecocontract windows specified for architect's own home

Private house, hertfordshireMark Herbert, a partner of Ansell and Bailey Architects, recently specified Ecocontract timber windows for his own 1960s detached house in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire. Mark was keen to replace the original steel windows with windows with a higher environmental performance. Ecocontract’s thermal efficiency and use of 100% FSC Pure timber were important factors, but so too was the quality. “Having seen the windows, I felt that they were good quality and at a good price. We are familiar with numerous window ranges and I felt Ecocontract was as good as many more expensive ones.”

Ecocontract windows installed in private houseEcocontract tilt and turn windows were chosen; double-glazed, inward opening and finished with a pine stain. The windows are part of a refurbishment of the house, which includes the addition of oak cladding. Mark has been pleased with the end result, describing the Ecocontract windows as “Well-engineered, with a good finish”, the windows have received favourable comments from visitors.

Specifiying Ecocontact for his home was a ‘trial run’ for use on other schemes including healthcare developments and a new build house aiming at Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 and above.
