Insulation
Insulation of roof spaces can make a huge difference to the energy efficiency of buildings and Green Buildng Store recommends the installation of loft insulation to at least the depth required by the current Building Regulations for new houses (275 mm) and preferably more.
Natural insulation materials are not only effective insulants, but also derive from naturally occurring materials which require simple processing. This means that they not only require little energy to produce, but also can actually sequester (lock up) carbon as part of the building fabric. They are also pleasant to use and install.
Summary
Warmcel 100 is manufactured from fire-retarded recycled newpaper. It is designed, and only really suitable for, loose filling lofts where it offers a real cost-effective alternative to mineral fibre insulation.
Thermafleece is manufactured from pure British sheeps wool. It is suitable for sloping ceilings and roofslope insulation, as well as stud walls and dry lining. It is more expensive than mineral fibre insulation or Warmcel 100.
Thermafleece PB20 is made from 60% sheep's wool and recycled polyester. It is suitable for sloping ceilings and roofslope insulation, as well as stud walls and dry lining.
