National Trust Visitor Centre - Ightham Mote, Kent

The new visitor centre at the Ightham Mote National Trust property in Kent was designed by architect Stuart Page to minimise the building’s environmental impact. Green Building Store’s AIRFLUSH® Urinal System, designed by water conservation specialists Elemental Solutions, was chosen specifically because of its environmental benefits. The AIRFLUSH® Urinal offers a unique waterless system that avoids the use of expensive replacement cartridges, using instead a low-energy fan and well-designed pan to keep the urinals clean and hygienic. As with many National Trust properties, Ightham Mote is off mains drainage, so reducing the load on the site’s septic tank was also an important consideration.

Stuart Page has been pleased with the performance of the two AIRFLUSH® urinals installed at Ightham Mote, which have worked reliably and consistently throughout the year that they have been installed. Installation instructions were clear and easy to follow and there have not been any problems with odour and hygiene issues. Indeed, Stuart commented that actually they have had to make efforts to prevent staff using disinfectant products such as sanicubes (used in conventional urinals), which are unnecessary for the AIRFLUSH® System. Stuart would definitely consider specifying the AIRFLUSH® Urinal System in future projects.
