Bill Butcher - Operations & Construction Director, BSc, ICIOB, Certified Passive House Consultant

Originally trained
as a quantity surveyor, Bill has over 35 years’ building experience,
including construction of the Longwood low-energy house in the early
1990s. Bill was Project Leader of the Denby Dale Passivhaus project. Through his regular fortnightly Passivhaus diaries blog, written
for Building.co.uk, Bill sought to make Passivhaus construction methods
accessible and easily understandable for the wider construction
industry. Bill is also actively campaigning to introduce the
Passivhaus
approach in the UK and improve the regulatory framework to facilitate
the uptake of Passivhaus design.
Bill was short-listed - and received a special mention - in Building magazine's 2009 Green Guru Contractor poll: "Bill Butcher's perseverance with his Passivhaus and his accessible prose telling the story has done more to develop green construction in the UK than most. Truly excellent."
Chris Herring - Marketing & Development Director
Chris has over 25 years' building experience and was the Technical Leader for the Denby Dale Passivhaus build process.
He has worked closely with Bill Butcher to ensure the meshing of theory
and practice of Passivhaus standards and technology with UK materials
and building techniques. Chris is one of the UK’s leading experts in
high performance window design and has been advocating and pioneering
sustainable approaches for most of his construction career.
Over
the last 5 years he has been one of the leading proponents of the
Passivhaus approach to low energy construction and of the adoption of
Passivhaus standards and methodology in the UK. He is current Chair of
the AECB, the sustainable building association and Chair of the
Passivhaus Trust.
