Eco house: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
When Chris and Teresa Allewell embarked on the refurbishment of their three storey Victorian terraced house, making the building as energy efficient as possible was at the top of their agenda. The project involved replacing the rear elevation windows and incorporating a glazed green roof into a single storey extension.
Keen to find a local timber window supplier without compromising on thermal properties, Chris and Teresa were pleased to discover the Ecoplus window range from the Green Building Store. After making a visit to Green Building Store in order to view some sample windows, they decided that they had found what they were looking for. The Allewell’s opted for four double glazed window units in FSC 100% oak and French doors from the Ecoplus range. They also incorporated two French windows from the Ecoplus range in to the new green roof on their extension. The energy efficient properties of the windows helped to greatly improve the thermal efficiency of the entire building, in conjunction with additional insulation in the walls and loft spaces and a solar hot water system.
Since installing the new windows and doors and completing the refurbishment project, Chris and Teresa have been delighted with the end result.
