Passivhaus window first for UK
Dated: 21/02/2011
Visitors to Green Building Store’s stand N53 at Ecobuild will be able to get a sneak preview of the new Alphawin Passivhaus window, about to be officially launched in Austria. Developed by Optiwwin in Austria over the last two years, Alphawin is just going into full-scale production in Austria. This will be the first time Alphawin has been displayed in the UK.
Alphawin represents the very cutting edge of Passivhaus window design. It offers Passivhaus designers a fantastic new window specification with a whole U value of 0.68 W/m2K and Passivhaus Institut certification.
Alphawin also offers a number of design features to help create stunning Passivhaus buildings and offering flexibility when working in PassivHaus Planning Package (PHPP):
• Natural materials – timber frame, wood fibre insulation thermal break and natural plant oil finishes.
• Slim 90mm profile – helping designers to optimise solar gain by maximising the size of the glazing area and minimising the width of the frame
• Flush sash from interior – with elegant sightlines appealing to architects
• Minimal frame visibility from exterior – the window frame is positioned neatly in the wall insulation, with minimal alu-clad trim to protect the visible external frame.
• Differential glazing options – allows Passivhaus designers to optimise thermal performance and solar gain by utilising different glazing specifications depending on façade orientation.
Chris Herring, Director of Green Building Store said:
“Alphawin is a fantastic addition to our Passivhaus window ranges and we are delighted to be working with OPTIWIN, a world leader in Passivhaus window design. We especially like the Alphawin’s slim profile, excellent differential glazing options and use of natural insulation materials. “
The Alphawin window will have its preview launch at Green Building Store’s stand N53. The Alphawin window will be displayed as part of a Passivhaus wall system, developed by fellow green building specialists Natural Building Technologies for Green Building Store’s stand. Green Building Store’s stand N53 will also showcase a working model of the NEW PAUL Novus 300 MVHR system, a Passivhaus certified unit with an outstanding heat recovery rate of 94.4/ 93%*. Green Building Store’s Passivhaus specialists will also be on hand to discuss projects, as well as offering free Passivhaus technical resources and literature.
